Homebrew All-in-One Control Box (Version 2)

Sat Oct 26, 2019 10:05 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, it has been a number of years since I posted the thread debuting the first homemade all-in-one control box, now it's time to reveal the new and improved version 2.

Instead of using an actual AR timer to control the contactor, which takes up a lot of space, three electronic timing relays take its place. The off-delay relay on the left stands alone and is directly connected to the starter, while the middle relay (another off-delay relay) and rightmost relay (flasher/repeat cycle timer) work together to produce a three-minute wail. As with version 1, this one also uses a DTMF-8 Plus to decode and activate the timing circuits. It's much smaller and lighter, as the size and weight of the first was definitely an issue.

At any rate, I hope you enjoy the following demonstration of how it works. As soon as I finish up the MS Excel wiring diagram, I'll post it publicly. At some point, I'll also post a demonstration of it running one of my Secomak GP3 sirens, which are much more impressive sounding than the Federal Model A used here.

As promised, the test of the GP3 has been completed, and the video link added to the original post. New video also includes a verbal overview of the setup and how it was assembled.
