Bad idea. You are likely to destroy the motor doing so.

Not likely, your breaker WILL trip before the motor even gets 1/4 speed (or melt fuses). That siren won't work on 110 unless the breaker is 60 amp which is not likely unless it is 240. I know this all from personal experience.

I'm surprised that your place doesn't have 220 outlets! Even if there aren't 220 stove outlets or A/C units, I bet you could get 220 at the box. If so, buy a 50-amp RV extension cord and you can use stove or dryer plugs & sockets. That way, you could run the cord to the garage when you want.

Yes, that's a real 500-lb Federal SD-10 I'm holding (braggart!)

Charles, can you run a heavy-guage cord from a dryer/range outlet to a 60 amp siren and it still work without any damage to the circuit? I believe a dryer is 30 amps.

You need Number 6 wire for 60 amps as in 6-3 it's expensive like 269.00 for 125feet For dryer cord its number 8. That is why I have yet to run my 2t22 at 220 volts I'd need 125 feet of 6-3 I have the 60 amp breaker for it

No 220V ?

Surely there must be 220V for range and clothes dryer.
If not, you should be able to derive 220 from your service entrance.
Connect from one black wire on one side of the breaker panel to the other black wire on the other side.

Check for 220 V output.

Black - Neutral - Black

Either Black to Neutral = 120 V
Black to Black = 220 V

A stove is typically 50 amps, and I only suggested the dryer plug & socket to use with the RV cord in place of the RV type 110v plugs that would come with it. As you suggest, a 50-amp load would probably trip the breaker on the 30-amp 220 dryer circuit. The surge current is the problem on the siren. HUGE load while it's winding up. Once it's up at speed, it draws a lot less.

I wouldn't go 125 feet; that's too much loss. I'd use maybe 40 or 50 feet, which should work for Archon's garage? The other thing would be to make a makeshift cord with 3 #10 solid core wires, which probably isn't to code for that load but should be OK for this purpose. You'd just have to be careful with it not to bend, kink and unkink it repeatedly or it would break.

Excellent recording. One question, tho.
This 2T sounds quite high-pitched to me. I was once able to hear one out on the east end of Long Island (Center Moriches or thereabouts) and it seems to me that in this recording The lower-vaned rotor issues a tone where IIRC the higher one should be.
Can I safely assume that your model is hooked up differently from what would usually be the case?
