Jerome AZ Gamewell Cosgrave siren

Wed Dec 28, 2022 5:48 am

Saw this siren today in Jerome AZ. The controls are exposed to the weather and the wires are cut. The relay has not been replaced yet since it is burnt up. The 3 rotor design is very unique. This looks to have been installed between 1930 and 1940.

If anyone has info on these sirens, feel free to add below!

This used to do noon blasts, but the Denver down the street took over for it when it burnt up 3-4 years ago. I believe this was the last active example in existence, and I can’t recall where any others are off the top of my head, if any remain.

So the motor seized? Also, what port ratio is it if it’s 3 rotor?

Fantastic find! I've only seen a handful of pictures of a Gamewell in the wild over the years. Would love to hear how it sounds

It was struck by lightning, which burnt up the control box. I could see from the ground that the contactor was burnt severely. I don't know if it will get fixed anytime soon.

It does have 3 rotors and stators, but I don't know if its dual tone or single tone.

The Cosgrave's rotors and stators are all 12-port, so it's single tone.
