Well, at least they're upgrading/replacing them with good sirens and not doing away with sirens altogether.

I'm not that knowledgeable on sirens in Kanas, but what did Sedgwick County have before the 508's were installed?

I remember this county now! It had that extremely high pitched bolt that got replaced. Good to know that those pieces of junk ATI's were laid to waste.

What I don't understand is how the new sirens have "fewer parts". A simple speaker-bracket assembly contains far fewer parts than the complicated rotator, chopper, stator, etc. assembly of the 508s.

At the end of the replacement project, there will 3 Thunderbolts left, a few 2T22s, and a Thunderbeam left from the old system. They will also no longer be relying on the ATI Radio system. As far as I know, the newer sirens such as the Whelens will be removed, and most 2001s relocated.

.....Interesting....check this link from 2012 out:

So, 10 years later and the system is already obsolete or am I missing something?

I mean, they're ATIs. They were probably defective from day one.

Reminds me of how Nashville's ATI's went out.
