The Mobile Modulator

Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:19 am

My boss took this pic for me while he was on the way to South Carolina. Really good close up of a Modulator demonstrator unit. He said he almost had a wreck trying to drive and take a pic with his cell phone at the same time lol.

That is quite a picture! You can really see the driver-covers in this picture.

I've seen Federal Signal's Mod demo truck a couple times before. I didn't figure that any siren installers had their own.

Federal/Braniff Communications is actually supposed to run a demo at my school sometime soon. We're replacing our 1003 with a couple of Modulators on campus sometime in the near future. It's not set in stone, it all depends on available funds but there will likely be 2 MOD6024s, one just west of campus that would cover the honors housing, the ROTC building and the soccer fields and one in the middle of the main campus. Needless to say, we'll have some pretty thick coverage with both sirens well in each others range.

Great pic, Chewie! I'm curious as to how that truck can stabilize itself like that... seems pretty top-heavy.

Mods are the way to go for school campuses... or at least a good electric of some sort. Our campus has one Mod that's only been used once in a tornado a few days ago, but it's been tested at least 15 times in the past 2 years so most students here didn't believe it (albeit the thunderstorms and hail) until they used voice. Luckily, it was up nice and early at 7 AM so barely anyone was awake, let alone outside.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence indicating that you tried.
