I believe DjT stated in the past that this particular Thunderbolt 1003 had a chopper setting of level 2. That is un-common, and most Thunderbolt's were shipped at chopper level 5 and most cities didn't change that.

Given the design of the rotator mechanism, the siren shouldn't have any significant difficulties between running at 2, 4, and 8 RPM's as the rotator motor will work at the same load regardless.

Re: Thunderbolt 1003 | Alert - High Low - Attack

DjT1003 wrote:After working for the last month installing a couple 2001-130s and performing minor repairs to a few older sirens, we scheduled a custom siren test to ensure that everything worked. Sirens all over the city could be heard sounding for approximately 30min on and off during the scheduled testing (some were tested alone manually apart from the rest). We had from 12pm till 12:30pm to make noise.

First, all the sirens sound "Alert Signal" used for storms; 2nd, the other sirens (NOT the Thunderbolt 1003 Fire Siren) sounds the Attack signal; 3rd, ONLY the Thunderbolt 1003 (City Fire Siren) sounds a short clip of High-Low signal used for Fire Calls; 4th, I had the Police Receptionist hit the "Attack Warning" button on the AF Timer located below in the Police station after the wireless activation part of the testing was complete so the Thunderbolt 1003 will sound the Attack (Thunderbolt normally dose not sound the Attack, its controller is not programmed to).

Before the Thunderbolt sounds attack, you can hear one of the 2001-130 sirens activating in "Fast Wail" across town. We also had Federal Signal out with us today assisting us with everything. Busy day but also a fun one! Hope you like the video.

(Sirens in Madison are: Sterling Models, 2T22s, 3T22s, Thunderbolt 1003, 2001-130s and 2001SRNBs) All old sirens are on the schedule to be replaced in the next few years by Federal Signal 2001s.

Nice video Derek, but I don't see how you walk up to these sirens while their in operation. My ears would bleed if I did so. :P

Most of the sound from a Thunderbolt is projected above you via the horn. It's not like standing next to an SD-10 where you get blasted.

What software do you use to put the titles and photos in your videos?

From memory, I think he uses Windows Movie Maker (going on his "asking for help" thread a while ago).

Pretty much standard on Windows XP and Windows Vista (might not be all versions though). It's pretty much a drag and drop affair when in storyboard mode; then again, I don't use it.
