A Call to Arms - Federal Electric Serial Numbers Wanted

Sat Feb 15, 2025 3:36 pm

Hey all, I haven't posted in a while, but I'm issuing a call to action. For the longest time, trying to determine Federal Electric's serial numbering has confounded me, especially when trying to determine what period a siren was built. Not much information is currently known outside of vague unconfirmed speculations.

If anyone has information or, preferably, photos of Federal Electric tags (specifically anything larger than a Type Mach. 1, so no A's, D's, etc. That would be nice in the future however), as well as any information about the installation date and where it came from, please post in this thread. As entries pile up, I would like to create a spreadsheet similar to those for Thunderbolt sirens. If we can do it for those, then we sure can here too!

Are you looking specifically for Federal Electric S/Ns? I have a Federal Enterprises Model 5, S/N 26738. 5 horsepower on the tag, 208 V 40 A 3-phase, 60 Hz. Estimated manufacture sometime in the late 1940s early 1950s.

This Federal Enterprises Model 7 was installed at the Raisin Township fire station in 1950, painted red in color. Sadly, in 2009, it was replaced by an ASC T-121. This siren is not active, and hasn't been since the 90s/2000s.
