This Federal 2001SRN DC, is located on Barr Road, 390 meters south of Geddes Road. It has been here for a few years and was one of the very first 2001SRN models produced. Eventually, it will be replaced by a new ASC Tempest T-128 sirens, when the monetary funding grants are available from the state of Michigan.

This ASC Tempest T-128, was installed within the last two years, and is located 90 meters to the west-southwest of the intersection of Denton and Proctor Roads in Canton Township. For many years this area was served by a network of nine Federal Signal 1003 Thunderbolts. However, since the legendary, but high dependable Thunderbolts have no backup source of electric power; hence, they will not operate when commercial power has been disrupted. Likewise, the Federal 2001 DC sirens that replaced the 1003s, have not been reliable. Therefore, it was decided to go with the second largest producer of outdoor sirens in the United States: American Signal Corporation of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

My last siren of the day was in southern Superior Twp. When it was decided that Washtenaw County, needed to improve their outdoor warning siren covering in highly population areas, they decided to go with Federal Signal's 2001 DC sirens. The first area to receive these warning devices was area the highly prone manufactured home communities. The majority of tornado related deaths across the nation, occur in mobile home parks every year.
This siren is located 40 meters east-northeast of the intersection of Stamford and Bazley Blvd. If additional monetary funding can be secured, another siren is slated to be installed at the intersection of Clark and Prospect Roads. This however, may not happen for another two years, given the current economy in the state of Michigan.
