I was quite surprised myself when I saw this picture.
Here.
Gotta love those SD70Ms!

I wanted to show this to the board, but I was too afraid to make a topic, so thanks!

Oh man, do those SD-70s look sharp! Union Pacific does concentrate on paint schemes.

That was Union Pacifics olympic torch units 2001 and 2002 with the United way sd40-2 spliced in between, nice pics of those vintage Illinois Central
e8's under that yellow t bolt.I bet both the siren & the building are gone from that area today.......

Four engines for just six cars?

What is that steam coming from the tracks?
Is that to keep switch points from freezing?

Now, if there were a steam locomotive, semaphore and wigwag, the photo would be complete.

Yeah, I think it'd be to keep the points from freezing. And sadly, yeah, the siren and building are probobly gone nowadays.

Is that steam from hose lines to be aimed against frozen areas?
Or is it piped directly to the switch points?

That Thunderbolt had a long pipe and supporting guy wires.

Couldn't they just mount the blower on that higher roof
with the chopper horn assembly right on the blower?

Or was it too heavy to accomplish?

Whenever we learn of a building to be imploded, we should determine
if a siren is on top.

Our 2t22 was destined to be scrapped.
It survives only because on it's 45' utility pole it couldn't be reached.
