Is it worth making a 600 mile trip for a 1003? Pics Added

Sat Jul 17, 2010 7:10 am

I have a chance to go pick up a 1003 that was offered to me.
It'll involve a 600 mile round trip.
From what I can tell from the pics of it emailed to me the thing
is in decent shape. It even has the RCM 1 and RCM 3 with it.
The trip won't only involve picking up the siren. I'm going to make
a stop or two along the way. I'm just wondering about making
a 300 mile trip with a complete thunderbolt in the back of my S-10.
It's a late 70s model so it doesn't have the super heavy blower but
it'll be right at 1k lbs in the back of my truck.

How often does this opportunity come up?

Personally, I think its worth it on the basis that this sort of opportunity is quite rare.

If you don't mind me asking, where is this 1003 located?

Arkansas. It was removed 19 years ago. One of my worries is that I get up there and see in person that it's in very rough shape. It looks ok in the photos that were emailed to me but you never really know until you see something in person.

This may sound a little silly, but you might have them take additional photos for you just to be sure? Personally, I'd make the drive, even from Lubbock. If the price is right [free, or near free] then I'd say it would be worth a shot.

Yes I think you should get it. This opportunity does not happen very often.
