They'll probably upgrade to 2900s when the proposed overhaul goes into effect.

Wait...what? The Whelens that they have are practically brand new!

Fairview Heights has a system of 2800s. There is a Modulator at a park, but it's stationed within some private lot, so I do not know if it is used for tornado warnings or just for their own use.

The few I've seen were actually OA5s. They had the "Type I" cabinet with the one big door (like the Vortex utilizes), versus the two-part ("Type II") cabinet found on the WPS2806 and smaller. This may be another reason why they are wanting to replace them, to upgrade to voice-capable sirens.

Here is one (via Google street view) where you can see the control cabinet pretty well:

Ah yes, I forgot that the OA series existed. When I was recording the Thunderbolt, I heard the nearby Whelens sound off in Attack. During a tornado warning a year ago, they were activated in Wail. The phone's camera failed during recording for some reason, so I was unable to record that ambiance.

Ninja Squirrel, were you going to record O'Fallon's T-Bolt near the Home Depot?

Yeah, I got that one. It's outside of the O'Fallon 15. Sounds healthy, but it rotates at approximately 1 RPM.

Not a problem. I just wonder what sirens O'Fallon will purchase when the Thunderbolts croak. The majority of the siren system are AL-8000s, but there is a 2001 in the mix that is also on Youtube, located in the link below.
