Gatlinburg sirens and Kentucky sirens

Fri Jun 21, 2013 1:07 pm

As many of you know, I recently got home from my vacation in Gatlinburg. Well, I saw some sirens on the way and I decided to take some photos:

The Owenton P.O. siren looks more like a "Master Blaster." Haven't seen any ATIs with speakers that big.

The "T-128" in Oakridge is actually a T-135 AC/DC, and your mystery speaker array is one of the first ACA Allertronics ever built (exact model unknown though). Seems they must have a lightning problem in that area, or they're just really paranoid; all the sirens, both new and old, appear to have lightning rods sticking up above them. Haven't ever personally seen that before on a siren install. On another note, I have to ask...what in the hell happened to that 2001-130?? Thought at first it was burned, but it looks like it's covered in soot/ash or something. Must be in a pretty rough environment!

You are correct, that's definitely a Loudoun product. Even has the octagonal enclosure in the center that all of the horns are mounted to. Judging by the aging of the speaker head, it looks to be an ES2000 model.

Yes, the speaker array is a Masterblaster, and the "Lightning Rods" are antennae.

The early ACA Allertronic is quite an interesting looking siren; it looks like a stack of 3 Eclipses. I too must ask however, what the devil is with the 2001? It's a 130 so it definitely shouldn't look like that just yet.

I tlooks like they painted the -130 black with some cheap non-outdoor paint.

I just realized something. Look at the base of the Masterblaster, the box where all four Atlas speakers connect into. Compare that to the base on this one:

Is it just me, or is one different than the other?

It looks the same to me. The tower mount may cause it to have an odd shape.

Look again. Those are not the antennas; the actual antenna is a small directional "Yagi" type, further down the pole (see first photo). I've seen lightning rods like those before, but never on a siren installation.

I don't know but that 2001 is freaking me out. :|
