You're right They were 4008s not 3016s but theres not a whole lot of difference in the overall body design its still a giant wind catch. Anyway here's the story

All the 3016s are scheduled to be replaced anyway, since Whelen no longer makes parts for it.

I think that Whelen makes a rotator upgrade kit for the 3016, but if one is going to spend the money to do the retrofit, they might as well buy a new unit.

I don't understand. If the rotator has any problems can't they just unbolt the fiberglass head and stick it on a new rotator assembly? At least it looked possible on the 4008 I saw in person at the Plano city lot.
