I got a University Loudspeaker loudspeaker today. Pictures will follow. I'm not sure what model it is, but it was tested before it was sold to me. Hopefully someone can identify which model this is and if I can hook the wires into my stereo.

You probably can, just don't send it to much bass. It won't sound the best, but I don't think you will have any problems.

From what I have seen and heard as long as you don't turn it up too high you should be fine.

Or you could add a high pass filter to whatever clip you want to use in Audacity. That will drastically cut off the lower frequencies of the sound.

For starters, try using a high pass cutoff of 1000hz at 6 dBz, and take down the frequency if necessary.

The stereo I have does not have the correct connections for the wires. Does anyone know a different way I can do this?

What kind does it have? Do you have a picture?

If it is the kind where you feed in bare wires into the srereo, than you would have to take the ends off of the speaker wire, or cut them off. Then feed the wires -to- and +to+.

I hook 100 watt PA horns into my Sony bookshelf speaker all the time to screw around with, and nothing has happened yet. So, yes, it's probably safe if I have done it with no issues.

Can anyone tell me how many ohms this thing is, I can't find it anywhere.

Safe? Yes. Especially when it is turned off. You should have those kind of things turned off before you connect/disconnect to avoid causing damage to anything. If you happen to do it while it is on don't short them or you could blow something internal, a fuse, trip a breaker or trip a self resetting breaker depending on how yours works.

Though it is best to make sure it is turned off. I am not encouraging you to do that with it turned on. (disclaimer)

The voice coil impedance is usually 8-11 ohms, however many PA apeakers of that type have an integral transformer which is designed to be used with a 25 or 70 V line. If your speaker has a transformer you won't damage anything by connecting it to your stereo, you just won't get much audio.
