My new Federal Enterprises Model J

Thu Oct 09, 2014 11:19 pm

Got this little bugger off of EBay for $89.29; I know that it looks rusty, I plan to take it to a place that can do media blasting soon. Also, the siren has good bearings as no squeaking emenates from the chopper. Here are some pics!

According to the seller, he ran it on 120 and it worked. Eventually, I will hook it up to 120 and I will definitely upload some videos! Is it safe to run it off 120?

**UPDATE 10/30**
I got the base (for the most part) rust-free with some steel wool. Along with that I need some advice; does anyone know what I would need to run the siren? I do not have any 240 outlets/power supplies handy (along with everyone in my neighborhood). Also, if there is a way, how much would it cost/where could I find it?

Thanks for the help!

You can always create 220 from two negative 110V lines from opposite sides of the main power panel as well, assuming you do in fact have 220 service to your home. It's a lot easier to plug it into a utility socket as Turbo said, though.

No, our house does not have a 240 volt hook-up in our laundry room. Our washer/dryer are running of gas. And our house is newer, so I would assume that the person who built this house wanted the appliances to be gas. I found this "110-120 volt to 220-240 voltage converter" while searching online:

Would this work, and if so, how would I hook it up? (I am really sorry if I am being a PITA about this, I am just trying to understand how to do this for the future) thank you for the assistance.

I dug a little deeper and I found out that 1horsepower = 746 watts, 240 volts. And the Model J is 1/2 horsepower (?) so it would run off 373 watts. Here I picture of the product:
