Actually, refineries are probably the worst environment for issuing voice messages: the message echoes a dozen times over through the maze of piping and infrastructure. I could barely make out a Modulator's garble come test day in Sarnia's industrial area, and that siren is located in an open rail yard.Brendan Ahern wrote:...but they are good for outdoor areas and good for other types of emergencies where weather garbling the voice wouldn't be a factor. Refinery accidents and such.
That's why I'd prefer solar charging to be solely a means for charging a set of backup batteries with the siren hooked up to AC as its primary means of function. Of course that kind of premium is gonna charge you an arm and leg, but you'd have an independent charging source with a siren that won't cycle the life out of those batteries under a normal scenario. Then again, if disaster strikes once, it would always be a smart idea to have your radio or phone handy in case of the next impending doom, as most sirens are usually not gonna stick around if knocked over anyway.uncommonsense wrote:But if AC is knocked out it isn't going to recharge until AC is restored.
