Active Sirens Near Philadelphia, PA???

Sun Oct 11, 2015 1:28 am

Hi Guys,

I have been really confused lately...

So i live in a suburb near Philadephia called "Wayne".

Lately I have been hearing some sirens (2 more than others) going of in "attack mode" probably for fire calls. If i am not wrong, they are an STH-10 and an STL-10.

Also, today at work, I swear i heard an ACA Cyclone, it was very far away but I couldnt mistake it for anything else.

Does anyone live near here and know about active sirens near here?

Thanks
Sirens: Federal Signal model A

PM me if you live in the Philly/Main Line area and wanna talk sirens :3t22:

I know most of the fire companies in that area have fire sirens.

There is an STH-10 at the Haycock Fire Co in Quakerstown. Also a Thunderbolt on the roof of the Edgely Fire Co near Brisol, and an STH-10 at the fire station in Bristol and a Model 5/7 and Model 2 in Newportville. I'm sure there are many others too!

Holy crap, this topic is calling my name!! I live an hour and a half west of you in York County, Pa but I take pictures of fire trucks as a hobby so I have been all over this fine state and have a photographic memory. So let's talk about sirens in your area, you live in Wayne (I am very jealous by the way, the Mainline is one of my favorite areas)... you have a plethora of sirens around you. The STL-10 you hear is more than likely from the Bryn Mawr Fire Department, they have an STL-10 and it is still used for fire calls. STH-10's are a bit harder to pin down, they are so very common in your area that is hard to pinpoint down. Some departments around you with STH-10's are: Berwyn, Narberth and Broomall... those are the ones that should be hearable from Wayne (though Broomall is a pretty big stretch). As far as Cyclones, there are none around you... not a single one sadly. I can't think off the top of my head who would even have a siren that would sound anything like a Cyclone, there aren't any ACA sirens that I can think of in the area. I remember before Radnor redid their firehouse they had an STL-10 mounted about 3 stories in the air on a steel tower on top of their firehouse and a Model 5 mounted below it, when the firehouse was redone both sirens were dropped from their perch to the ground below and than moved over to the temporary building at the AT&T building. They were in pretty bad shape, I have a picture somewhere of the sirens sitting at the temporary station but I am not sure which book it is in (sad sight none the less). As for active sirens in your area, here is a far reaching list for your enjoyment:

Mainline starting from Exton:
Fraizer - Sentry 15V2T (non-active)
Paoli - Red STH-10 mounted on a cell phone tower
Malvern - Grey STH-10 mounted on a pole behind their station
Berwyn - Grey STH-10 mounted on the bell tower of their firehouse
Bryn Mawr - Green STL-10 mounted on the roof of their firehouse
Bryn Mawr College - Whelen 2805 sirens mounted around the campus for notifications and emergencies
Ardmore - Federal Select-tone siren speaker mounted on the front of the firehouse

Other sirens in the area (no order):
Narberth - Federal STH-10 mounted on top of their firehouse
Penn Wynne - Overbrook - Brown Model 5 mounted on the roof of their firehouse
Llanarch (Haverford Twp) - Federal Eclipse 8H mounted on a steel pole in front of their firehouse
Bon Air (Haverford Twp) - Air Horn mounted on the back of the firehouse
Manoa (Haverford Twp) - Yellow Sentry 3V8 mounted on the roof of the firehouse
Brookline (Haverford Twp) - Grey STH-10 mounted on a steel tower on top of the firehouse
Oakmont (Haverford Twp) - Federal Eclipse 8H mounted on a pole behind the firehouse
Gladwyne - Federal STH-10 mounted on the roof of the firehouse
Belmont Hills - Federal Model 5 mounted on the firehouse

This is just a sampling, I could list every siren in the area but it would get repetitive and I would get confused about what areas to hit... if you are curious who has what and I didn't include please feel free to ask or send me a message, look me up on Facebook ([email protected]) or send me an email even.

Wow, thank you for this! I actually live right next to Radnor fire station and I even have 2 friends who are junior volunteer firefighters there, and Berwyn and Paoli are very close to my school. Do you know where the sirens from Radnor are right now? Ive also looked for the siren for Paoli but cant seem to find it. Is it on the cell phone tower thats right next to the station?

Both of the old Radnor sirens went down south, a fire department down there bought a piece of fire apparatus from Radnor and they wanted the sirens too. The STL-10 was pretty smashed up, I actually had one of the horns from it but I can't for the life of me remember where I put it now. The siren from Paoli was on that cell phone tower right at their station but the possibility exists that it was taken down now, it has been a bunch of years since I have been at Paoli. My friend and I did a swing through Chester/Delaware County last year, I have yet to ever get photos at Berwyn.. everytime I go there they get a fire call and have to leave. We did get good pictures at Radnor though, such a nice area! I found you Facebook and sent you a friend request in hopes that we can chat local sirens, you can accept it or ignore it if it creepy LOL

Very nice pictures, the Model 5 has disappeared off of the roof of the Berwyn Fire Company.. not sure where it might have gone. When I was there last year they got a gas leak call (no surprise, happens every single time I go there LOL) and the STH-10 didn't activate so the possibility exists that it isn't used any longer. They used to blow it for both fire and ambulance calls so that is quite a work out for a siren with their call volume, I didn't take any siren pics that day but here are the apparatus shots from Radnor for your enjoyment. Quite a tight parking lot to put apparatus for pictures, but they were limited on how far they could take them so it worked for me LOL

The model 5 is still up at Berwyn as of today, i drive past it every day when I drive to and from school, maybe it was taken down to be fixed? but then why would they fix an inactive siren :?: ?

Also my friend who's a volunteer EMT at Berwyn says they might start activating the STH for house fires, maybe that's true but Im not sure. Another one of my friends who used to be a volunteer at Berwyn (graduated high school and is at college now) says they blow it for tornado warnings but im not sure about that either because I didnt hear it last week when we had one. haha talking in this thread has made me realize how many friends i have that are firefighters and EMTs haha.

Also i saw your request on Facebook, just make sure not to publicly post anything about sirens haha, not sure how my classmates would react if they knew i was upsessed with sirens haha.

Maybe they deactivated the system while they were working on the Model 5?
