I have been really confused lately...
So i live in a suburb near Philadephia called "Wayne".
Lately I have been hearing some sirens (2 more than others) going of in "attack mode" probably for fire calls. If i am not wrong, they are an STH-10 and an STL-10.
Also, today at work, I swear i heard an ACA Cyclone, it was very far away but I couldnt mistake it for anything else.
Does anyone live near here and know about active sirens near here?
Thanks
Holy crap, this topic is calling my name!! I live an hour and a half west of you in York County, Pa but I take pictures of fire trucks as a hobby so I have been all over this fine state and have a photographic memory. So let's talk about sirens in your area, you live in Wayne (I am very jealous by the way, the Mainline is one of my favorite areas)... you have a plethora of sirens around you. The STL-10 you hear is more than likely from the Bryn Mawr Fire Department, they have an STL-10 and it is still used for fire calls. STH-10's are a bit harder to pin down, they are so very common in your area that is hard to pinpoint down. Some departments around you with STH-10's are: Berwyn, Narberth and Broomall... those are the ones that should be hearable from Wayne (though Broomall is a pretty big stretch). As far as Cyclones, there are none around you... not a single one sadly. I can't think off the top of my head who would even have a siren that would sound anything like a Cyclone, there aren't any ACA sirens that I can think of in the area. I remember before Radnor redid their firehouse they had an STL-10 mounted about 3 stories in the air on a steel tower on top of their firehouse and a Model 5 mounted below it, when the firehouse was redone both sirens were dropped from their perch to the ground below and than moved over to the temporary building at the AT&T building. They were in pretty bad shape, I have a picture somewhere of the sirens sitting at the temporary station but I am not sure which book it is in (sad sight none the less). As for active sirens in your area, here is a far reaching list for your enjoyment:
Mainline starting from Exton:
Fraizer - Sentry 15V2T (non-active)
Paoli - Red STH-10 mounted on a cell phone tower
Malvern - Grey STH-10 mounted on a pole behind their station
Berwyn - Grey STH-10 mounted on the bell tower of their firehouse
Bryn Mawr - Green STL-10 mounted on the roof of their firehouse
Bryn Mawr College - Whelen 2805 sirens mounted around the campus for notifications and emergencies
Ardmore - Federal Select-tone siren speaker mounted on the front of the firehouse
Other sirens in the area (no order):
Narberth - Federal STH-10 mounted on top of their firehouse
Penn Wynne - Overbrook - Brown Model 5 mounted on the roof of their firehouse
Llanarch (Haverford Twp) - Federal Eclipse 8H mounted on a steel pole in front of their firehouse
Bon Air (Haverford Twp) - Air Horn mounted on the back of the firehouse
Manoa (Haverford Twp) - Yellow Sentry 3V8 mounted on the roof of the firehouse
Brookline (Haverford Twp) - Grey STH-10 mounted on a steel tower on top of the firehouse
Oakmont (Haverford Twp) - Federal Eclipse 8H mounted on a pole behind the firehouse
Gladwyne - Federal STH-10 mounted on the roof of the firehouse
Belmont Hills - Federal Model 5 mounted on the firehouse
This is just a sampling, I could list every siren in the area but it would get repetitive and I would get confused about what areas to hit... if you are curious who has what and I didn't include please feel free to ask or send me a message, look me up on Facebook (
[email protected]) or send me an email even.
