They used to blow it for both fire and ambulance calls so that is quite a work out for a siren with their call volume, I didn't take any siren pics that day but here are the apparatus shots from Radnor for your enjoyment. Quite a tight parking lot to put apparatus for pictures, but they were limited on how far they could take them so it worked for me LOL

The model 5 is still up at Berwyn as of today, i drive past it every day when I drive to and from school, maybe it was taken down to be fixed? but then why would they fix an inactive siren :?: ?

Also my friend who's a volunteer EMT at Berwyn says they might start activating the STH for house fires, maybe that's true but Im not sure. Another one of my friends who used to be a volunteer at Berwyn (graduated high school and is at college now) says they blow it for tornado warnings but im not sure about that either because I didnt hear it last week when we had one. haha talking in this thread has made me realize how many friends i have that are firefighters and EMTs haha.

Also i saw your request on Facebook, just make sure not to publicly post anything about sirens haha, not sure how my classmates would react if they knew i was upsessed with sirens haha.
It is a good question, I have never heard the Model 5 activate for anything.. the STH-10 I have heard plenty of times and assumed that was their active siren. It is hard to say, Chester County is a changing landscape as far as sirens go.... Lionville took down their Model 5 10 years ago, Exton took down their 2T22 15 years ago, Fraizer spent all of that money for the Sentry 15V2T and it sits inactive now.. so the possibility exists that Berwyn is going to move away from using a house siren. I won't post anything public on your Facebook wall about sirens, might chat with you on messanger from time to time and you are welcome to message me anytime as well. With all your friends in the fire department, you may want to join yourself... being a volunteer firefighter is very rewarding and Radnor is a good, progressive department to be a member of!

Ah yes, this topic is calling my name too...I have ties to your general region, and photos of several of the sirens mentioned here. In addition to what Dave mentioned, Newtown Square has a T-121 on their firehouse...I was cringing the whole time we were at the Wawa next door, waiting for the sucker to go off. :P

If you go up towards Norristown, Bridgeport and Swedesburg both have active fire sirens (a 3T22 with a hornless 2T22 on the ground next to it, another 2T22 and an STH-10), and Swedeland has a Model 5 that's only blasted for special occasions nowadays.

As for Berwyn, I'm pretty sure what they have is a Model 3, not a 5 - it looked a little on the small side in the field, especially next to the STH. As for activity, I couldn't tell you anything more - the only fire siren I ever heard when I was last up there was a distant 2T22 out by Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Newtown Square is a fun station, one of the original Warningsirens.org members Rick Pschioda (I am pretty sure I spelled that wrong) is a member there and allowed them to have a rotating display of sirens. The original siren was a Federal STH-10, it burned out so Rick threw a 2T22 up on the roof (in black and slime green), he decided he wasn't happy with that so he put an ACA Allertronic 6000R that he got from one of the refineries down in Marcus Hook, Pa for a short time. It didn't last long due to it's condition so it got replaced with an STL-10 (Red in color) which ran for 5 years before they (he) decided a new one was in order, so they bought that T-121. Rick is also a member at the Goshen Fire Department, they had a Sentry 15V2T as a siren which got upgraded to a 20V2T at some point (the original siren was yellow and the new one is red). On another note, I didn't know that Bridgeport had an STH-10.. I knew about the 3T22's at each of the stations but never knew of an STH-10. I also didn't know that they had a hornless 2T22 sitting on the ground next to one of the 3T22's, the siren at the main station (don't tell the Goodwill I called the other station the main station LOL) used to be across the street on a steel tower on top of the municipal building. when they redid the building they moved the siren to a pole behind the firehouse.

When I visited Bridgeport's main station they told me the hornless 2T22 used to be up at the old high school as a booster. When they demolished the high school they took the 2T22 down as well and stuck it back there for a rainy day.

As for the STH-10, technically that's Swedesburg's...a gentleman I spoke with at the Swedeland VFC (home of the Model 5, which was down awaiting a new pole when I visited - got to spin it up and everything!) told me it is still in use for calls.

Yea I used to ride dirt bikes with my friends near Swedeland fire department (now the lot we rode in is being converted into a Fedex distribution plant) but i have noticed that the model 5/7 is no longer on the double pole in the lot, but it is still on google earth.

I was driving around a few weeks ago and saw that STH at Swedesburg, also if you are driving from Swedesburg to Swedeland (or vice versa) there is a model 2 on top of a conveyor belt at a quarry (i think) between them, i was going to snap a picture of it but there was no place to park.

Also if you drive a little bit from Swedeland (actually right around the corner), at the PECO gas operations plant theres a model 2-240 and a Sentry 3v8 on two different buildings there. Ill try get out there in a week or two and get pictures to post here. If you want to go and look it up on google earth, the address is 300 front street in Conshohocken.

As for Bridgeport, i have always wanted to go there and see their xt22's, i always love seeing those monsters up close.

You learn something new every day, I must have driven by that gas plant a hundred times and never saw the Model 2 or the 3V8.... I did know about Swedesburg's STH-10, still looks very nice! The George Clay Fire Company of West Conshohocken replaced their Model 5 with a Whelen 2802 at some point, not sure exactly when it happened but I noticed it about 2 years ago while driving through on the Schuylkill Expressway. The STH-10 is still up in the bell tower (with a Gamewell Diaphone) of the Washington of Conshohocken and Conshohocken #2 still has an STL-10 mounted at their old station. Speaking of the Schuylkill, I swore I saw an SD-10 just outside of Conshohocken on a mill type building from the Expressway. I finally found it at the Spring Mills Fire Department, it and a Fedalcode style Model 5 are both on a building across the street from the firehouse.. they both appear to be in despair shape wise. Norristown has a Gamewell Diaphone on City Hall and at the Fairmount Fire Department and I swore that I heard a mechanical siren in Norristown when they started the State Fire Convention in 1997 but I will be darned if I can find it anywhere.

Not a chemical plant. Probably used to use it to let workers know when to start/stop and lunch if I had to guess. Maybe they still use it.
