Thanks so much! I'm guessing thats the only video of a 408 in action?

Also , does anyone know where the 408 in the video was located?

This is sad. My saying is this, unless there is some physical or internal problem with the EOWS sirens than keep them working until their very end. Otherwise what's the point in spending quarter of a million dollars on these amazing EOWS sirens and than just leave them to rot in a grass field. It just doesn't feel and look right.

You have a better eye than I do! I wonder what's up with that? Seems a bit overkill.
And by the way never saw that. He has a sharp eye. I thought my eye were sharper. Haha.

All fine and dandy until they don't work during a real emergency. They are obsolete and outdated sirens, and were a rushed product with problems from the start. Upgrading the controls would definitely lessen the issues with the siren, but it makes more sense from a community's standpoint to replace it completely with a newer siren.

I think you got rushed right Cruz, that 115 in Mattawan was underwhelmingly quiet.
In my opinion, I think there way too many 2001's in Indiana!

I am a little confused. The 1983 Federal Signal Corp. brochure lists this eight-speaker rotating EOWS as the "EOWS 812", but everyone else here has called it the "EOWS 816" instead. http://www.jmarcoz.com/sirens/sc4.pdf

Is this just a mistake or did someone discover something regarding the actual model number?

Yes, the EOWS 812 is old and clunky and the overall SiraTone lineup had its faults. They came from a time when Federal was desperate to modernize its aging siren lineup - the Cold War was on its way out, Federal no longer owned the siren market, and none of their products had been seriously innovated since 1959. Meanwhile other siren makers had newer, flashier products to woo over customers.

On the other hand, I distinctly remember seeing the one north of Oshkosh. It looked more reminiscent of a traffic light signal. It was mounted on a shorter pole to accommodate the huge siren head - a T-128 took its place by 2007 and it looks somewhat low mounted in contrast.
I don't remember hearing the EOWS 812 go off, but they would have the same tones as other SiraTone sirens. The only difference would be volume as the EOWS 812 was supposed to be louder. I believe the drivers were divided as the name suggests: 12 drivers for 8 horns, implying not all of them have 4 drivers each.
The EOWS 812 was replaced with the EOWS 612 by 1985. I don't know who got the first EOWS 812 although I'd imagine they all went up within a fairly narrow time-frame.

Yeah you guys are right. I didn't thought of it like that. There has to be a reason why they took out the EOWS 816 sirens. Yeah you're right that they're and cities wanted to keep there outdoor warning systems up to date if they can. And anyways the new siren is already up and running. So it makes complete sense to remove the EOWS 816 siren from it's pole. So than why did these cities didn't keep using they sirens they had before they replaced them with the EOWS 816 sirens. I bet they sirens they had before the EOWS 816 sirens were 1950s to 1970s mechanical sirens. And they wanted to probably test how good is a electronic siren is compare to mechanical siren. But they didn't realized that 1980s sound cards weren't the best. So they had to probably replace the sound cards in the SiraTone control box couple of times. And the cities realized that it costing them too much money to keep replacing sound cards and speaker drivers. So they finally went back to mechanical sirens because they were better. But one more thing I don't get, why than the EOWS 612 was still getting built by Federal Signal all the way up until 2001. Were they the best size and model of all the EOWS siren series?
