New York is awesome. While there are a lot of Model 2s, 5s, and STH-10s, you occasionally stumble upon something old and unique.
Such as this thing. I'm linking to the map rather than taking a screenshot so that you can view the siren from different angles.
At first I thought it was a Sterling, but then I looked closer and noticed that it was a little different. The ports for example, look nothing like the long skinny Sterling ports. Then earlier today I actually drove by it, and while it may not look so on Google, it is HUUUUGE. This led me to think that it's an H.O.R. Super Sirex (wasn't H.O.R. based in NY?), perhaps with some kind of custom housing. What do you fine folks think?
As you can see, it now serves as decoration, having been replaced by a Model 5. But the tower that the Model 5 is on definitely looks like it could've once held this beast. Interestingly enough, three of the other four companies in the Vestal FD have towers just like that one (the fourth is a newer station, and uses two telephone poles). I wonder if all four companies had Super Sirexes (or whatever this thing is) at one point. And in case you were wondering, the other three stations also have Model 5s, except for one which has a Sentry 3V8.
This is actually like ten minutes from where I go to school, so I'll probably go check it out one of these days. If I can do so without looking suspicious, haha.
