I don't really understand Northville's system. I've been pretty much all over Northville and Northville Township and all I've seen is the TBolt and the two Model 5s. You would think that, in such a rediculously wealthy community like Northville, you'd have some pretty high end equipment. I guess they just don't see it as a priority.

I think that the reason it's still there is that Silver box near the bottom of the pole. It appears to have nothing to do with the siren itself(since the top cabinet has the antenna) It may have been cheaper to leave the siren and just disconnect it in the cabinet at the time, insted of removing the siren and leave the other device.(the two thick white antennas at the top)Canton's EM told me that they have a person more involved with the sirens in her department. But they haven't called back yet.

And for Northville, you can search their site and find that the 2008-2011 budget has provisions for replacing their two sirens. But they don't state where they both are? I hope they know?

EL1998P71,

I can't remember which post it was but don't you have a map of the Detroit area sirens? I'd like to see that again,

The Thunderbolt at Canton FD #2 is rather low mounted and it looks like it is mounted to the building.

when you drive north on haggerty rd. it seems to go uphill a bit. That may explain why it's low. (It is attached to the building)

Excellent pictures...I like the way the Tbolts are mounted, with the blower off the ground and mounted aside the pole. I love mixed siren systems!!

It has been decades since I was in Northville. But the city is only about 5,000 people, and is landlocked by Northville Township to the south, east and west, and by Novi to the north. That T-bolt has been there since I was little and visited my aunt and uncle there. I didn't know about the other one, but I do know that Northville goes into Oakland County. Northville had annexed that area before Novi incorporated as a city.

When I was little, I visited the PD/FD, and saw the dispatcher on duty. At that time (early 1970s) the city had a Motorola console from which they controlled the sirens. The dispatcher would hold the button for about 15 seconds when there was a fire call, and would press it momentarily each day at 12 Noon for a daily test.
