Uh, he never said anything about the 2001 posting a threat to any of the old CD era sirens. He said that he's tired of all the bashing done to the 2001 siren. Nor did he ask why all the bashing was done. Think before you post, please.SIRENMAN wrote:Allertor 113: Ask yourself why all the bashing of the 2001? Your comments about posing a threat to CD era sirens are ridiculous and absurd. The Thunderbolt and Allertor (your namesake) were designed to penetrate and carry the sound to warn people. The 2001 is probably the worst siren on the market for warning citizens as the frequency is about 800mhz and is not tested according to ANSI Standards S12.14. It amazes me that the officials who buy 2001 have not done their homework and will settle for an inferior product. The 2001 covers 4 square miles at 130db (untested) and the T-128 covers 10.4 square miles at 128db for about the same cost. Now you know why all the 2001 bashing and I do respect your opinion about the 2001, but next time do your homework so you don?t look uninformed. Your comment ?Who cares if it doesn't sound as good as a Thunderbolt or a 2t22? is ridiculous because a siren is not about how good it sounds, but how it penetrates and grabs your attention. To trivialize the sound of a siren is an insult to a lot of the people on this site who are experts on sirens, of which I am not one of those experts.
I think he knows what he is talking about we have both done a few months of research on this matter and the figures don't lie. He has been dealing in sirens for 30 years or better. Servicing building them and installing them from P-10s to 2001s. The 2001-130 may be reliable ,but it lacks sound penetration due to it's high frequency. Any Acoustical engineer would tell you the same. I'm trying to remain objective here and state some facts. 500hz will simply carry and penetrate farther than 795to 800hz plain and simple. So it's not really a question of reliability it's a question of optimum sound frequency. The 2001-130 is'nt ANSI field tested the T-128 is ANSI field tested. Sorry if this ruffles your feathers fellas. Some of the older 2001s penetrate much better than the newest version does. I would say that the 2001-130s are more like the KIAs of sirens rather than the Honda. Ha and a smite to boot.Crazywarriorman wrote:Uh, he never said anything about the 2001 posting a threat to any of the old CD era sirens. Yes, from a musical quality, it isn't terribly exciting. But Springfield, MO has a system of them and MAN do they carry. I'm living away from campus this year, and those 2001s roar in a storm. The sound is effectively eerie and attention getting. They're loud. They may not penetrate as well as a T-128 would, but they get the job done. In other words, the 2001 is the Honda of sirens. A car enthusiast might see the Honda as boring, but it gets you from Point A to Point B effectively and reliably.
