It is used for fire calls as well as the siren tests.

The Housatonic fire siren is actually tied into the firebox in the front of the station. It's electrically interconnected. if the box is pulled, it triggers the siren. (and the alert tones). I know, I accidently set it off while trying to reset that very box! (I used to be on the department, and did the maintenance on the now defunct GB fire alarm system as well)

I will be in Springfield on Saturday to get pictures of as many of the remaining MD's as I can find. Plus I think there is one more Siren in Agawam to add to your chart, but before I say so, and am wrong, I want to double check.

@carexpertandy It's possible it is used for a test. Unfortunatley from my location, I can't hear the BI FD, so I don't know when they would do a test or not.
