The high pitched sound is a combination of a high chopper speed level (most likely level 7) and a reverse wired blower.
Long-time siren buff hailing from the state of Oklahoma. 8-)

I thought ATI's were 500hz. Are you talking about the ones with the wind-up?

Early ATIs made in the very early 2000s used a 1000hz tone. There aren't very many left, since most ATIs from that era have long since died or had the controllers replaced.

Here are a couple examples -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1ir7K1a1KE Nashville's old system, which was promptly replaced by a newer system

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufnb9kFPu8s This video is what I believe to be one of the only known recordings of an ATI DSA-style array going off, the only other being the units in Florida.
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.
